We hold everything that is organic, eco-friendly, and environmentally sustainable close to our hearts at San Mattia. All of our work is oriented to helping and safeguarding the fertility of our land.  Our aim has always been to respect the land whose management is already bearing the first concrete results. We have solar panels on the roof that provide us with 40% of the energy we need, and thermal panels that produce healthy hot water for agritourism from April to October.
Rainwater is collected and stored for irrigation. The agritourism is controlled by digital technology that reduces energy consumption and waste by controlling the lights and air-conditioning system according to the environmental conditions, guaranteeing minimum consumption and the least emissions possible. The commercial farm is in the process of being converted to organic farming and so pesticides and other synthetic industrial products have not been used here since 2009, replaced by Copper, Sulphur, and organic systems confusing the insects in their sex life.
When there is no risk to the grapes on the vines, the geese, ducks, chickens, and horses are free to roam in the vineyard where they control the grass perfectly and provide good natural manure. We have had the bee hives for a few years now confirming how right the decision to manage the farm according to strict organic rules was.
